It’s the summer of 1849 and me and my buddy just got the news about the gold in California. Him and I just got finished packing our clothes and supplies, we are about to head to our wagon and get with a wagon train. So far our trip has taken about 2 days and we are still thinking if we should sell our pick-axes to some miners and get a lot of money, or if we should try to strike it rich. We ended up deciding to try to mine ourselves and see if we can find some gold. We are just arriving in San Francisco which has become a boomtown and is super crowded. We found a mine-shaft that isn’t too crowded and we are about to start mining. We just finished some mining and are taking a break. Oh, and we found some friends from our wagon train and they are helping us. We think this California Gold Rush is crazy. While we were mining we saw some people take apart their conestoga wagon and build a shack to sell supplies to us minors. Right now us 4 are thinking about settling here, and building a little log cabin out of both of our wagons and some little trees. Today, we decided that we would mine for a couple of days, then if we didn’t find anything we would head back home. As we started mining today a man walked up to us and said “Hey, can I work with y’all 49er’s?” We were all confused on what a 49er was, so we asked “Sir, what’s a 49er?” Then he explained “Well, that’s what y’all minors are being called, right?” Then my friend, being himself said ” Oh yeah, that’s us!!” Then we let the man work with usfor a while, until he had to go feed his Ox, but but the sad thing is he never came back. So we went out looking for him. Well we’ve been searching for him for about a day or 2, and we are beginning to get tired. Now today we decided to head back to camp to sell our equipment, then buying a wagon, and heading back home. We are traveling in our new wagon right now and we just found the man who left, he’s just walking so we are gonna give hima ride home. Today we just got back home and started talking about our trip and that it was really fun even though we didn’t find anything good!!!
